June 2005

Nidderdale High School - Click for larger image A Ward Topdek, the all-in-one single ply insulated roofing panel was chosen to cover the roof of a new swimming pool based at Nidderdale High School, Pately Bridge, North Yorkshire. The project provides swimming facilities for both the school and the local community and is a joint project by Harrogate Borough Council and North Yorkshire County Council.

Ward Topdek is a factory pre-engineered composite roof panel that facilitates faster on-site assembly. It comprises a proven high performance single-ply PVC outer membrane integrally bonded to a Firesafe rigid PIR insulation core, approved to LPBC standards. A steel trapezoidal profile inner deck provides structural strength. The Topdek system features no through fixings and panels can be curved to any radii over 70 metres.

The architects, Goddard Manton Partnership London specified Topdek for its speed of installation, ensuring the site was protected as early as possible during the project. Vital factors in choosing Topdek are attributed by Lee Fogarty at Goddard Manton to 'the panel's excellent thermal performance, vapour control and air leakage qualities.' The pool's roof also features a complex curved profile at the entrance so Topdek's ability to form curves was also a key factor influencing its selection.

Installation was undertaken by Barry Collen Ltd of Scunthorpe, a Ward approved Topdek contractor, Director Barry Collen, confirmed 'by providing an all-in-one membrane solution, Topdek helped to save significant time during installation - up to 50% when compared to a traditional built up single ply roof.'

The main contractor on the project was Allen Build, Leeds.
