Ward Insulated Panels has played a vital part in the construction of one of Britain’s greenest supermarkets.
Topdek was used for the roof of the flagship Tesco eco-store in Wick in the north of Scotland.
It is a factory pre-engineered single fix membrane roofdeck suitable for applications on flat, pitched or curved roofs. Topdek’s PIR insulation core has zero ODP (ozone depleting potential) and is LPCB FIREsafe certified which enables the building to be classed as non-combustible.
Topdek panels arrive on site as complete, factory prepared units. Precise panel sizing and quantities can be specified and the unique self-coring screw enables Topdek installation to be simple, greatly reducing the potential for waste, as well as speeding up construction time.
Not only are they quick to install, insulated panels also provide extremely thermally effective, airtight and durable building envelope solutions, reducing energy consumption over the lifetime of the building.
The 50,000sq ft supermarket was designed to be the most environmentally-friendly of its kind in the UK, and it is expected to have a 50 percent smaller carbon footprint than similar sized traditionally built stores. Not only is the building envelope designed to have minimum impact on the environment but construction methods were also as low-carbon as possible, while road freight was replaced with shipping to reduce both emissions and road congestion.
