Ward Insulated Panels has supplied a total insulated roofing solution for the flagship superstore of European furniture retailer Ilva. The new store, based in Picadilly Basin, Manchester is the first new build for the Scandinavian furniture retailer that began in Denmark in 1974 but is a relative newcomer to the UK.
Ilva has set out a clear vision for its retail outlets to be modern and elegant where people want to browse and has built a reputation for innovation in product design and the new store fulfils this ambition.
The roof was constructed by Hathaway Roofing using 6300 m² of Ward Topdek and the main contractor was Shepherd Construction. Hathaway sales director Steven Price, said: “Topdek was the obvious choice for the first new Ilva store to be built in the UK, we chose the Ward product because of its suitability as a low pitch roofing solution.
“Topdek also came with an extended 25-year guarantee that simply was not available through any other composite roof panel solution. It installs really quickly which offers obvious programme advantages and the invisible fixings produce a great aesthetic finish for the store.”
Ward Topdek is a factory pre-engineered composite roof panel that offers faster onsite assembly compared to traditional single ply roofing methods. It comprises a high performance single-ply PVC outer membrane integrally bonded to a Firesafe rigid PIR insulation core approved to LPBC standards, and a steel trapezoidal inner deck, which provide structural support.
As an all–in-one single ply roofing solution, Ward Topdek compares favourably to traditional built up roofing systems and is 50 per cent faster to install and the unique self-coring fixing screw speeds up the installation process further.
